Jeremy D Williams

Who am I?

And why am I the best choice to serve you?

Born in Toronto, I grew up in the nearby Hockley Valley, moving to Orangeville proper in 1992. Educated at the University of Waterloo where in 1986 I met my future wife Donna. We have four amazing kids, Michael, Patrick, Thomas and Kathleen. I’ve been in business for myself most of my life, following in the footsteps of my father. I run an asset management company, which owns and oversees property throughout the region. I enjoy spending time with my family. In total I've coached or been trainer on over two dozen hockey or soccer teams over the years.

My father Stewart Williams served on nearby Adjala council for many years, allowing me an ‘inside’ view of how councils work long before I was elected.

My mom is a senior who lives in Orangeville, making me familiar with the needs of seniors. My eldest son is special needs, which gives me a unique perspective on what families with special needs members have to deal with on a daily basis.

As councillor I served on 11 committees, chaired 8 and was vice chair of our Parks and Recreation committee. I helped to bring back Crime Stopper’s to Dufferin County, build Orangeville’s ‘Communities in Bloom’ and led the creation of this area’s first Sports Council. I served on the board of directors for Orangeville Hydro as one of two voting members and as president of ORDC, Orangeville’s 54km railway. As mayor, I represented Orangeville at the County level as a councillor for the County of Dufferin.

As former chair of Orangeville's trail committee, I supported needed expansion with access to 6.6kms of Island Lake trails and over 1,000 metres of new trail within Orangeville. 2 vital bridge links were also completed. Amelia to ODSS and Victor Large area to Maywood park.

My work as mayor of Orangeville was uniquely challenging as many on my council did not share my conservative views. Despite that, Orangeville earned many National awards and accolades. I inherited bloated and problematic finances when taking office. By the end of my term, our debt was essentially gone. Decades of accumulated deficits were all paid off. Our depleted reserves were rebuilt, leaving Orangeville stronger and more stable then ever before. Our industry and local business climate has never been better. I implemented a 5 year forward planning budget, a first for us.

I was directly responsible for saving millions of dollars from our budgets. It was a tough few years to get through. Under my leadership we froze police expenses for 3 years while increasing safety through greater efficiencies. The internal conflict that previously existed was ended. Our town’s finances are finally in order after much work. The fruits of that are already beginning to show with the last budget moving less than 1%.

I have had many life experiences that ideally suit me for the role of MP. I’ve given years of community leadership and service, with nearly a decade as an elected official. I’ve worked hard on dozens of committees, chairing most of them.

But more than anything, I’m committed to rolling up my sleeves and working hard for our riding and for you. That means being here and putting in the hours.

Recently I sent out a 'voting kit' to help members know more about me, those running against me, and the process.

If you didn't get one, email me your membership number and I'll get one to you right away.
